Burlesque

Burlesque is widely known as the “art of the striptease.” While there’s many theories on how exactly burlesque made its way to the United States, we can certainly track it’s origin to somewhere around the 1840s. New Orleans has along history of burlesque dancing weaved into the stories of Bourbon St. and Storyville. Alongside New Orleans trad jazz, burlesque became an entertainment staple. In its heyday, up to 50 acts per night that could be seen in the clubs on Bourbon St. I started performing burlesque in 2007 alongside 5 other women who were just excited for the opportunity to be on stage and perform. What I didn’t know was that this fun hobby would turn into a career.

I have had the distinct honor of headlining burlesque festivals, tattoo festivals, fundraisers, social events, birthday parties, baby showers, and more. Burlesque has brought me to the seedy underbellies of New York City to parading in the streets of Switzerland to teaching in the beautiful dance studios of Brussels to performing in a palace in Austria for the largest AIDS fundraiser event in the world. I have had the honor of performing and producing for The Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekender and in 2018, was selected to compete for the title of Miss Exotic World. For several years, I was voted to be in the Top 50 Most Influential Burlesque Industry Figures in the world by 21st Century Magazine.

Burlesque in New Orleans continues today and features a burgeoning scene that provides something for everyone. Whether you’re in the mood for some classic striptease with live music, neo performance art, drag shows, circus arts…I can guarantee that you’ll find a show somewhere in New Orleans to suit your tastes.
